What a great picture, and apropos of our discussion today on the Blue. Deception is sometimes necessary, and sometimes profoundly upsetting, and often both at once. Your picture reminds me of a poem by Baudelaire (scroll down for English translations). The poem was inspired by a statue by Ernest Christophe, originally titled The Human Comedy (the picture is poor; the statue is of a crying woman holding a smiling mask in front of her). Elizabeth Barrett Browning also wrote a wonderful poem with a similar theme.
